This piece was created entirely using standard graphite pencils. No grids, tracing, white pencils or inks were used; every area of white within the image is simply the untouched paper itself.

Four photographs were used as reference material before a small number of guide marks and a rough outline were placed on the paper. From that point, the drawing was developed entirely by eye, with each detail, texture and tonal shift built up gradually as the image evolved.

Rather than working from a fixed grid or traced template, David relies on observation, instinct and an understanding of how the finished composition should feel, refining and adjusting the drawing throughout the process.

The original artwork took 904 hours to complete, reflecting the exceptional level of patience, precision and craftsmanship behind every detail.
